Met a Woman

I wish I’d met a woman who loves me like you do
When I was young and foolish at the age of 22
I would have been so happy for the rest of my life
If you’d consented then to be my loving wife.

I wish I’d met a woman who loves me like you do
When I was still a young man at the age of 32
No one ever said the things I hear you softly say
No one ever told me that they love me every day.

Now, had I met a woman who loves me like you do
And we had long been married when I turned 42
No mid-life crisis would I’ve had nor sordid love affairs
For in your arms respite I’d find from all my woes and cares.

And, had I met a woman who loves me like you do
When I was in the prime of life somewhere round 52
I’d never have to say I’m sorry, please forgive me, dear
And cries of a heart broken I’d never have to hear.

Oh, had I met a woman who loves me like you do
Even though retiring at the age of 62
My golden years of happiness would have had an early start
And true love would have finally found a place within my heart.

Still, no one came along who loves me like you do
And little did I know of love when I reached 72
I figured life was over, at least the love was gone
How little did I know that you would prove me wrong.

It wasn’t till you came along and loved me like you do
That finally I fell in love when I was 82
You make me feel like 28 so I’ll not hesitate
To happily get married before I’m 98!
