Stranger’s Gate

Next time you venture into Central Park
Whether during the day or after dark
Don’t forget to visit Stranger’s Gate
Before the midnight hour and it’s far too late.

It’s right across the street from the big red castle
There ain’t no long wait or big ticket hassle
It’s a great place to watch the sun go down
If you happen to be on the Upper West Side of town.

Now, don’t forget to bring your dancing shoes
And together we’ll dance away all your blues.
It’s the drummer’s corner and where poets hang out
You can skip rope or train for your next boxing bout.

It’s only four blocks south of Cathedral Parkway
Near the circle where Frederick Douglass stands today
At the east end of Duke Ellington Blvd we rhyme

Come watch and relax and have a good time.

When the mayor comes by we all sing ‘High!’
Cause when it comes to performing we ain’t at all shy
We just love to sing, rap, dance and prance
And don’t like being stepped on like a bunch of ants.

Up, up and away … we’d stay here all day
But have other things to do besides coming out to play.
We have families to feed and no food on the table
So we sure do appreciate what you can do if you’re able.
